Warning: Pets At Risk From Mother's Day Flowers And Chocolate!

With Mother’s Day just around the corner (Sunday 10 May), the experts at Bayer Animal Health asked us to help spread the word to Aussie mums re the dangers that common gifts like flowers and chocolate pose to family pets.

Lilies in particular are a popular choice as cut flowers in bouquets and arrangements, but unfortunately, they're extremely toxic to cats in particular.

Did you know that the toxicity in lilies if consumed by cats could cause death if left untreated within three days?!

Similarly, Chocolate is toxic to dogs and can cause hyperactivity, vomiting, diarrhoea, increased drinking, increased heart rate, seizures and possible death if left untreated.

With about 25 million pets living in about 63% of Australian homes Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world.
